Echoing its land-grant mission, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is collaborating with local partners to engage with K-12 and college students in our surrounding communities

STEM Illinois will build upon our current ecosystem of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics that inspires youth from diverse backgrounds and learning styles to explore STEM education and career opportunities.

This collaboration with local partners will give local students unprecedented access to STEM skills that are so important in modern lives and careers. From public events to cutting-edge STEM activities for children and parents, this will be the land-grant mission delivered in a 21st century intergenerational format. Students and families from Champaign to Chicago are going to see STEM in an entirely new way

STEM Illinois will include a series of activities and programs, among them STEM Fest and STEM Saturdays, which include hands-on STEM-based activities for children and parents. A Communiversity Think and Do Tank will provide opportunities for community members to discuss challenges facing STEM pathway programs, and a Communiversity Wellness Center is located in Lincoln Square Mall to support the community as they support their students. Additionally, young people interested in electrical and mechanical engineering, graphic art, coding, robotics, or sound will work with technology and culturally grounded music in the Ghetto Genius Street College multimedia studio.
