Illinois Human Resources is committed to supporting the success of university employees. A wide variety of resources have been provided to faculty and staff, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Remote Work

During the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Illinois Human Resources implemented remote work arrangements for as many employees as possible in order to fully realize the benefits of social distancing. This involved revising and redefining Telecommuting Guidelines to offer more flexibility to units working to accommodate remote work requests. Additionally, Illinois Human Resources compiled a variety of tools and resources to support faculty and staff during the transition. Thanks to these efforts, the university is able to provide assistance to units and employees while maximizing the health and safety of our university community.

Faculty/Staff Assistance Services

Faculty/Staff Assistance Services (FSAS) offers free confidential assistance to employees and their families who may be experiencing difficulties that impact their lives. This includes providing assessments, short-term counseling, crisis services, referrals to appropriate resources, and the About Us multi-media resource project that began in May of 2020. Faculty/Staff Assistance Services has a staff of licensed counselors who provide confidential assessment of personal and professional concerns as well as short-term and solution-focused counseling to University of Illinois employees, retirees, and their household members. FSAS also provides services tailored to the specific issues that are affecting a work group. These services are designed to improve group communication, encourage collective growth and development, and identify obstacles to collective problem solving. Finally, FSAS is responsible for supporting and sustaining the Faculty/Staff Emergency fund dedicated to employees needing financial assistance in times of crisis.

Campus Wellbeing Services

Campus Wellbeing Services empowers the Illinois community to incorporate healthful practices into their lives and helps create a culture of wellness that supports healthy living, personal growth, and enhanced quality of life. This unit offers a variety of self-care resources, including a Coping with COVID-19 Toolkit that was developed in 2020 in partnership with Faculty/Staff Assistance Services. Additionally, a wide array of life-enhancing activities, programs, and services are offered and available to faculty and staff on campus and in the community.
